JILL KRINGSTAD ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR NORTH DAKOTA PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION
BISMARCK, N.D. – Republican Jill Kringstad today announced her campaign for the North Dakota Public Service Commission, seeking to continue her work on the Commission after being appointed to the position by Gov. Kelly Armstrong in January 2025.
“North Dakota’s role in national energy security, dependable utilities, and strong agricultural and industrial sectors depends on stable, common-sense regulation,” said Kringstad. “I’m running to build on the progress we’ve made — defending affordable, reliable energy, ensuring fair utility practices, and maintaining strong oversight of critical infrastructure that supports our families, farms, and businesses while balancing the needs of landowners and citizens of North Dakota.”
As Public Service Commissioner, Kringstad oversees key portfolios including pipeline and electric transmission siting, gas economic regulation, and railroad safety. She also serves as North Dakota’s liaison to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) and the Organization of MISO States (OMS), ensuring the state’s voice is heard in regional grid and transmission planning decisions.
A native of Bismarck, Kringstad is a Certified Public Accountant with experience in both the public and private sectors. She served as an intern for U.S. Sen. John Hoeven and U.S. Rep. Rick Berg. She entered the energy industry working seasonally at Cody Oil and Gas Corp. in Bismarck for five years and as a financial services accountant and internal auditor at Basin Electric Power Cooperative. She joined the PSC in 2016 as a budget specialist, and in 2019, she was named Manager of Business Operations, where she directed agency planning, operations, and strategic initiatives.
“Throughout my career at the PSC, I’ve focused on thoughtful regulation that encourages growth while protecting citizens,” Kringstad added. “I look forward to earning the trust of voters statewide so we can continue delivering dependable services and a resilient energy future for North Dakotans.”
As Public Service Commissioner, Kringstad is committed to keeping North Dakota’s energy strong, independent, and secure and will focus on:
- Affordable, abundant, and reliable energy for North Dakota families and businesses.
- Strong consumer protections with fair and transparent utility practices.
- Balanced regulation that supports investment and economic stability.
- Leadership on regional energy policy, ensuring North Dakota’s interests are represented.
Jill and her husband, Ben — a teacher and coach at New Salem-Almont High School — reside in Bismarck with their three children and remain active in community and civic life.
